The young Halifax native has captured the way young girls should dress while transitioning from experimental teen to young lady. With shades of pink, yellow and blue, the dresses are detailed with folds and pleats that are flattering. A belted, short-sleeved coat in a pale-coloured tweed and a half-sleeved silver- tailed coat with folded applique were also standouts in the collection.

Kimberly Newport Mimran produced a collection that had everything from sequins, wide stripes, leather and strong shoulders, but without anything feeling like it was too much. The loose fits gave off the very French feel of looking flawlessly cool without trying too hard and have a feminine louche feel to it all. Standout items included a pair of silk-pleated pants that had the look of being as comfortable as pajamas but as chic as a pair of fitted trousers. T-shirts and jackets emphasized the shoulders by building them out in an exoskeletal way, a sort of understated epaulette. Styling also included pushed up sleeves to or past the elbows.

Backstage beauty: Bright orange lips were the main emphasis for the face. The look was achieved by using a lip pencil to colour in the whole lip.

Joe Fresh

Runways shows are seldom left to a line of clothes sold in a supermarket chain, but in the case of Joe Fresh, it is one of the must-see shows during LG Fashion Week. Joe Fresh’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection is on point with a fresh take on country. Opening the show was Theodora Richards (daughter of Rolling Stone Keith Richards) who encountered a footwear trip up, but like a pro, played it off like no big deal. The footwear in question was a pair of white clogs, which was also seen on the Chanel runway a few weeks ago. So for those unsure if the Chanel clogs are a trend you want to jump on, hold out for the leather versions by Joe Fresh. Clever styling of underwear as outerwear also allowed the brand to show their line of intimates alongside the womenswear. Pink and neutral checks and ginghams were found on shorts, coats, and intimates made for fun clothes, while the sheer rosette tee and pleated skirts were light and romantic. A standout piece was the cotton lace coat. To think that this delicate piece may be sold next to some apples really shows that great fashion is not out of reach.

Beauty: To make sure you don’t smell like the farm while wearing these country-chic looks, Joe Fresh is launching a line of beauty products this month. Recommended items are the Body Wash and Body Balm in Nectarine, which leaves a subtle scent that isn’t overpowering or fake lingering on the skin.
